KUALA LUMPUR: The future of Malaysian football was front and center as Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, organized a crucial meeting with Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Amin in Johor Bahru.
The meeting, held shortly after the 2025 Budget announcement, addressed vital issues related to the national team and youth development.
This initiative follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of RM15 million dedicated to football development, with a significant portion allocated for hiring top coaches, enhancing training programs, and incentivizing players.
“Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor, welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on Oct 23. Various current affairs and topics related to Johor were discussed during this meeting.
“FAM president Hamidin and Sports Minister Hannah were also present, discussing plans for the Malaysian football team and its development,” the statement noted.
These discussions signify a collaborative effort between the government, FAM, and Johor royalty to advance Malaysia’s football goals.
Investments are targeted at the national, Under-18, and Under-13 teams, aiming to enhance Malaysia’s international football presence and nurture homegrown talent.
